My Engine Parts – takes you on a journey of discovery, looking at how cars and people are alike, unveiling a fun and easy way to talk about organ donation with people of all ages. Belle’s Book Project We want to see copies of My Engine Parts in every primary school across the country so we’re making it our mission to make this a reality! We love the idea of every young learner having the opportunity to access Belle’s book and to explore the topic of organ donation so here are some links to resources, free for all to use.
My Engine Parts
Are you crazy about cars? Belle Curran was too! Her favourite car was a Ferrari and that’s why her big brother bought her a toy one for her second birthday.
Belle’s dad refurbishes cars that are written-off or badly damaged. One of his customers would bring old Ferraris to get fixed up, and when they were as good as new, Belle’s dad would always take her for a spin.
This was Belle’s favourite thing to do with her dad.
When Belle got sick, she was told she needed a double lung transplant. Just like the cars her dad fixed up – Belle needed spare parts too! Belle lost her battle in 2019, still waiting for her spare parts.
The list of people waiting for organs was just too long compared to those available.
To shorten the wait and save more lives like Belle’s, be sure to chat to your family about organ donation and share your choices. You can visit Orgamites.com too – there’s loads of brilliant resources and info there
Educational Resources
As a charity, we’ve gifted every school in Pembrokeshire a copy of Belle’s book My Engine Parts in both English and Welsh, so that children everywhere can access her story. When we visit schools, we bring engaging educational resources to help teachers and pupils explore Belle’s life, her courage, and her message. These visits spark meaningful conversations about organ donation, kindness, resilience, and the importance of helping others. Our hope is to reach even more schools in the future, inspiring young people to talk openly about organ donation and understand the incredible gift it can be, while keeping Belle’s story and her values alive in classrooms across the country.
